Where are you from?

I get this question often, and often adjust the amount of detail depending on the context. I'm not from any specific country.

I'm a second generation immigrant to Sweden. My parents moved to Sweden from China for studies and I was born in Uppsala. I spent most of my childhood growing up in the idyllic suburbs of Sundbyberg, but moved to Beijing, China, alongside my family around the age of 11. Having studied at both a local middle school as well as an international high school, I'm very grateful for how that experience connected me to my roots and expanded my horizons. Naturally, I continued my higher education abroad, further broadening  my personal identity, receiving a Computer Engineering & Computer Science bachelors in Massachusetts, USA, from Northeastern University.

Finally, in 2018 I moved back to Stockholm where it all started. This is where I am now based.

What do you believe in?

Regarding people

I think connection is big in life, connection between people. I think it is central to the meaning of life - it is meant to be shared. Happiness is meant to be shared.

Sonder - the realization that every other person live a life as complicated as our own - it is underrated. I am slow to judge, preferring to take people with a pinch of salt. I think sonder is one of the foundations of compassion.

Don't just read the message, read the intention.

Regarding experiencing

I am obsessed with indulging in the sensations through the senses bestowed upon us. Art is a matter of self expression - thereby anything with personal emotional value can become a piece of art. It is not limited by the classical forms - as is justified by for example modern art. Expression desires to be shared, to be understood, therefore art is also communication. Communication of the soul.

Hearing - I'm not a talented musician but one of my biggest passions is singing, and I accompany myself with simple campfire guitar strumming or piano.

Sight - I'm not a talented painter, but I enjoy the process of capturing reality. Although I'd like to dive deeper into painting, photography has become my cop out.

Smell - some of the quietest moments are when you stop for a moment to appreciate the smell of earth after it rains. Or the fragrance of flowers in the gentle spring.

Touch - I'll be honest I dont indulge so much in touch, but I will say caressing someone loved, or feeling their arms around you, impresses deeply.

Taste - I love to cook. It's not the process I love, but simply being able to cook up whatever it is that your heart desires. And if I have the patience for plating, then the experience becomes completed.

It is not a mindset I'm perpetually in. But I know that if I want to, I can call forth it.

Regarding learning

We should never stop learning. Or rather, never stop being curious. Whether you want to or not, curiosity leads to learning. It is also not a mindset I'm always in, there are always other things going on day to day.  But I'm always down for a study session, like back in those student days. There is always something I can bring to dive into - whether it is one of my many ongoing projects, a new book, an old book, or just go to the library empty-handed and see what catches your eye.
